The purpose of this blog is to simplify Michel Foucault’s views on gender and
sexuality and to introduce queer theory in a creative yet comprehensible manner. By making
Foucault’s views on gender, sexuality and queer theory more accessible to the general population
I hope to raise awareness about the topics in hopes of further educating people. I have chosen to
explain Foucault’s ideologies by using as few words as possible. By taking a more visual and
creative approach to the learning process I have been able to better understand Foucault’s views
myself. If I was to only use words I would be simply restating the ideas presented in his book,
The History of Sexuality. Therefore, I have chosen to apply his theories and ideas to present day
scenarios. This has given me an opportunity to deconstruct his theories and ideas in order to
better understand them. Once I had a clear understanding of Foucault’s ideologies I was able to
integrate and apply them to modern day scenarios. I believe this has been more effective than
simply summarizing his beliefs without truly understanding their depths. I have created a public
online blog which I hope will engage and excite people about Foucault and his beliefs by
applying his theories to scenarios relevant to their lives. This will allow people to better
understand matters of gender and sexuality, and queer theory while applying them to their
everyday lives. This should in turn encourage a more comprehensive education regarding the
intersections of gender and sexuality in our lives today.
